Suckers, I read on HR World that Wednesday is National Walk @ Lunch Day. It’s sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield, and the website tells you why it’s so important to walk at lunch, yo:
Physical activity is vital to the well-being of all Americans. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates that just 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, such as a moderate walk, at least five times a week can result in significant health benefits, such as lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes and improving the health of muscles, bones, and joints.
I’m not anti-walking, necessarily, but I’m pro-MYOB when it comes to employers and private health matters.
Here’s my advice:
- If you’re a Human Resources practitioner, please do not coordinate a Walk @ Lunch event. You have better things to do, and employees don’t want you to micromanage their health.
- If you’re employed, you can continue the protest by eating a greasy double cheeseburger for lunch. In fact, don’t even get out of the car. Drive to McDonalds, go through the drive-thru, and then find the closest spot to your office in the parking lot so you don’t have to walk very far after lunch.
Hooray for National Walk @ Lunch Day!

I coordinated a walk to McDonalds lunch event today. We all stuffed our fat faces with Big Macs. Take that The Man!
I firmly endorse your cholesterol levels!
Oh, I fully endorse the lunch walk thing. Every single employee in my department will be required to load up a string bag with five stuffed interoffice envelopes, a portable office kit, and a ream of paper. The employees must then briskly walk 2.5 miles at noon while carrying the loaded bag. Actors pretending to be fellow employees will be assigned to flag down the employees and demand instant solutions to self-inflicted payroll errors. And then it will start to rain.
I hate people. But you knew that already.
Perrik, you are an evil payroll genius. With your hatred, you need to be a VP. Only then will you realize your full potential and have the ability to implement your wicked plans.

I thought of you when I read this one:
