Punk Rock HR Question 34: Could This Happen To Me?

Another question that deserves a straight answer.

Dear Team Building is for Suckers,

Could this happen to me?

Yours truly,

Scared Cube Dweller

Dude, some say this video is fake while others say it’s Russian (which doesn’t mean it’s not fake).

In any event, it could happen to you if someone in your office environment goes apeshit-nuts. My advice is simple: try to get a cubicle by a door or a window so you can get the hell out of there if/when your colleague(s) go crazy. Also, it’s not a bad idea to work from home.

Any other advice out there?

Love,
Laurie

PS - From Cols, she warns that this could happen. Get back to work & get back on the phones!

man, i can say that i’ve only experienced 2 freakouts. Some words yelled, something slammed and a chair sorta thrown around. Both employees apologized to me personally. One admitted a drug problem - then went to rehab. The other was seriously under some stress.

I kinda just froze and waited it out. In the above video - I probably would have ran out and told everyone else to go see ‘dude’ thrash the cubes, then steal something while i was left alone!

My advice: duck and cover & hope for stronger cube wall construction than the dudes in the video had. Herman Miller my ass!

I’m surprised this isn’t happening right now in some office somewhere. Just watching that guy’s reaction when his manager or whatever knocked his stuff off his desk was priceless. And WTF is she in an “elevated” cubicle - the view? The coworkers in both videos are stricken by what I like to call the “mouth agape syndrome” that is running rampant through cubicle jungles everywhere.

After attending a “Violence in the Workplace Seminar” that should have been titled, “My Old War Stories as a Security Guard: a Four Hour Retrospective (Powerpoint presentation optional)” I learned one important safety tip which I will most certainly heed the next time I have to term an employee who threatened to “bomb the place” after getting a counseling for attendance: always put yourself between the door and everyone else.

I sat clutching my sides and chortling so loud my hubby actually LOOKED UP from his World of WarCrack game to ask me what was so funny.

I told him it was an “HR thing” and he promptly lost interest, but thanks for the laugh!
