SHRM: Best Companies To Work For Lounge

by Laurie on June 22, 2008

I’m in the “Best Companies To Work For” lounge, and I have to say, it’s a pretty good lounge. It’s quiet, they gave me a free soft drink, and I can plug in my laptop. I’m not sure if it’s sanctioned, but I can stick my feet under a skirted table and take off my shoes, too! (Boy, these old HR meeting habits come back to me so easily.)

One woman asked me, “What do you do?”

I told her that I blogged about HR issues, and she told me that blogs make her nervous.

Another guy asked me what I’m writing about. I said, “HR stuff.”

He said, “What’s the name of your publication?”

I said, “Punk Rock HR.”

He said, “Yeah. Okay.” Then he walked away from me.

So much for networking!

I know you rock. Guys in HR? Geeks without the ironic cool thing going on. They were backup AV guys. His loss. You rock. Punk rock, even.

I am Totally Consumed with jealously! How did you swing a Press Pass?

Rachel Robbins June 22, 2008 at 6:58 pm

Haha. Some HR types are uptight.

@frank Okay, I’ve been endorsed. Could you tell the rest of the world so I don’t feel like such a dork?

@hrwench I MADE A VIDEO. I’m trying to upload it right now even though I’m on my 3rd martini. Oops.

@Totall yCOnsumed Find me and I’ll tell you how I got a pass, yo!

@RachL Uptight is an understatement.

Don’t feel bad. I bet that guy had a teambuilding session to run off to!

If you run into anyone from a company called Daniisco, tell ‘em I said hello. If you run into Jim Sjoerdsma, the VP of HR from there, ask him about being Hall and Oate’s hair dresser!
