SHRM Fashion Choices: Video 2

I have absolutely nothing interesting to say, I can’t stop looking at myself on the screen, and I say BOOOOOTH like I’m from Wisconsin. Nevertheless, I give you video/vblog/vodcast #2 from the SHRM convention.

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m secretly jealous of anyone confident enough to wear striped gaucho pants.

    The volume is fine! We are graciously averting our eyes from your nostrils.

    Gauchos and flip flops - those are the people with secure jobs. The ones in the suits are the ones seeking new challenges in a nurturing creative environment that values the capabilities that HR can bring to the table.

    LOL, I am a huge dork with the nostrils and the boooooooth and the whole concept of video blogging. I’m totes not ready for prime time.

    Gauchos, flip flops, white pants, low-scale linen, up-scale silk (for the VPs), and far too many f’ing scarves.

    Perri, I’m ready for you to nurture a creative environment that values the capabilities HR brings to the marketplace!!

    Scarves? Women are still wearing scarves? Please tell me they’re not wearing them tied in fetching little floppy bows that just hit the blouse neckline…

    This is great. From now on, I won’t attend conventions or seminars, I’ll just follow Laurie’s live blogs instead. If only I could get a few HRCI recert credits for this, I’d be set.

    Flip flops? Really? I understand dressing on the casual side of business casual but that’s a little too casual. Do these people not own comfortable business sandals?

    1. I miss you.
    2. Your hair looks fantastic.
    3. This SHRM convention sounds better than expected. We need to hit a conference together.

    hey… i wore white pants today… but i’m sure you’re referring to white pants coupled with a hawaiin shirt, or white pants with a visible panty line. ewwww.

    yep, i’m a big ‘ole hater. i said it here, first.

    i never said i was nice.

    This is why Portlanders do not travel any further east than Denver: we are super casual dressers. Give me jeans, a tee shirt and some Chacos or give me death.

    PS The only thing we use scarves for around here is to blow our noses. Reduce, reuse, recycle, yo!

    Loved your foray into video blogging! I can’t wait to hear more!

    @perrik Scarves like pashminas — not like flight attendants.

    @renee This counts for 60 recert credits. Let me make you a certificate!!

    @rachel I’ve seen my share of comfortable sandals and CROCS, too. Footwear: UR DOIN IT WRONG.

    @Jen I miss you too & thanks for the mad props. I used a blow dryer — this magical & mysterious thing I own but never manage to use when I’m home or when we have breakfast.

    @jessica I don’t mind the panty line but I do mind the white-undewear-white-pants action. It’s called NUDE UNDERWEAR ladies. Buy some. Also, white pants on very white, older women are dangerous.

    @hrWench I think the fashion was crazy because there’s a mix of midwesterns trying to look their best, some east coast people (overdressed if they’re from NY), and westerners looking relaxed-casual. It was also chilly, today, which threw a curve ball into the wardrobe plans. Joel Cheesman told me that I looked like a soccer mom. I said, “Soccer mom is the new punk.”

    @Lea Thanks! :)

    Erm, having never attended a convention, would a dress be wrong? I ask for two reasons:

    1 - its freakin hot in the west right now and I’m all about catching a breeze;
    2 - I just bid on the best vintage dress for reason number 1 and I may need to wear it every other day.

    Seriously though, gauchos? In stripes? Were they white with stripes??

    I’m a hater too, of gauchos anyway.
