I received an email, yesterday, from Emily at CBS News.
My name is Emily and I work for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. Katie just released a very important video on her YouTube channel and we were wondering if you could help spread the word about the case? Please see below for more details and let me know if you have any questions. Thank you. - Emily
Oh brother. I receive several invitations, each day, asking me to read books, attend conferences, and comment upon crazy blogs. I just received an email, today, asking me to judge a punk rock art contest.
I took one look at this request and assumed that the email message was either misdirected or spammy. I wrote back and asked Emily to read my blog. Honestly, I just wanted to give this poor woman a second chance to keep her job.
Emily replied:
I understand that posting a video by Katie Couric is not typical of what you’d blog about, but the video is a really important resource and reminder for everyone. If you could still post it, I’d greatly appreciate it.
Emily, I won’t lie. You had me at Katie Couric*. I don’t watch the evening news, but I hate it when the ‘media establishment’ cannibalizes one of its own. I would do anything to ensure that Charlie Gibson and Brian Williams are brought down to size.
So here’s your video, Miss Emily. You are awesome for responding to my email inquiry, and I’m 100% sure that Katie Couric appreciates the association with this blog.
[*Emily, I know you asked Frank Roche to post the video, too, and I won't hold it against you. He's a nice enough guy -- but frankly, he's not punk rock enough to write about portable defibrillators in the workplace. That's my turf.]

Hey, I may not be punk rock enough, but I have an aged ticker, and that qualifies me to be a freak about getting my first heart attack.
Is this post sponsored by the company that produces these?
Seriously though when I worked in manufacturing our safety team purchased one of these and trained in how to use it. Oddly enough they never announced it. I just walked in one day and there it was on the wall. Not a bad idea to have around if you have people trained and have the money to purchase it.
How can anyone want to bring down Brian Williams? He is hilarious! Did you see him on Saturday Night Live?
@rachL my post is sponsored by no one except my allegiance to CBS news intern Emily.
@lance I like Brian Williams just fine, but I think nightly news is silly and I’d like to see it replaced with something better — like more jeopardy!
