Punk Rock HR Consumer Tips

I want to be paid to write & speak about saving money during a recession. No one ever says, “Earn more money. Spend less of it.”

Well, that’s not true. Suze Orman says it, and then she tries to sell you a book to teach you how to spend less money.

Here’s my angle:

  • You will hand me $20 every week for six months.
  • I’ll stick it in a piggy bank and give it back to you when you really need it.
  • You’ll have to make a compelling case to withdraw the funds from my piggy bank. (Yes, you can repair your hot water heater. No, you can’t go to Vegas.)

It’s the Punk Rock HR savings plan — and I won’t even charge you I won’t charge you very much for it. Just a small handling fee.

What’s your best punk rock consumer tip?!

    Great one…Punk Rock Christmas Club.

Here’s a biggie: Don’t pay for eating out with a credit card. It’ll become clear very quickly that a lot of money goes on the card for what turns out to be nothing.

My consumer tip. Don’t watch Suze Orman. And never ever ever never touch your 401k or esop. EVER!!!!

well, besides from the rather obvious one: Spend less than you earn.
No use of creditcards - use cash instead. Then you realise what 50 bucks are.
You want something - take it from the shelf, hold it in your hand. Then put it back. Think following sentence “What would I gain from buying it - besides satisfy a Dopamine Craving?” - if your answer is “I gain more - i.e. wont go hungry to bed, will not loose my hoouse, car, pet.” Then you are safe - go buy it then.

@Frank I’m totally doing it wrong because I charge my Starbucks on a daily basis. Crap. If I had to pay cash, I wouldn’t drink it. ;)

@Darren A-freakin-men. You have my vote.

@Stony If we didn’t satisfy our dopamine cravings, what would we do with ourselves????

What’s the hateon for Suze Orman? I don’t have a strong opinion about her one way or another, what am I missing?

No, actually, I really love her. I can’t fault her for making a buck by doling out common sense money management. Someone has to speak truth to consumerism. I just wish I could have done it first!

Also, I just wanted an excuse to play that Kristin Wiig impression because it’s so hilarious.

Why do you keep stealing my posts? Get out of my head.

There’s plenty of crappy economic news to go around!!

Well, my #1 tip/initiative is to quit paying for heating or cooling. By the end of the year, I will be giving up heating oil to go geothermal. Phase next is to run my geothermal system via solar and wind power. ROI - depending upon the price of fuel oil and electricity, several years. Then let freedom reign.

It may not be the most pleasant experience; but “donating” plasma is a low-effort, low-commitment way to acquire some extra cash for the piggy bank.
