Inaugural Feature on PRHR: Keep Your Day Job!

I’ve been inspired to start a new feature here on Punk Rock HR (PRHR). It’s call KEEP YOUR DAY JOB, and our mascot will be Pierce Brosnan.

Why Pierce Brosnan? The dude is hot, and he made an excellent James Bond; however, I saw Mamma Mia, this weekend, and Remington Steele cannot sing. In fact, when he sang his first song, SOS, the theater erupted into laughter. I felt embarrassed for him because the dude has looks, charm, and a very lovely wife who is both real and age-appropriate; however, he cannot carry a tune despite his best efforts.

Pierce Brosnan, keep your day job!

PS - Pierce, if you’re reading this, some good will come of your singing — if only because you started a new feature on my blog. Also, please call me. I heart you. Big time.

i can’t believe you saw ‘mamma mia’ before i did! (ha)

but i also can’t believe, given the cast, that pierce is the only one in that movie who should keep his day job — meryl streep singing? colin firth? julie walters? (although i know christine baranski has to be fabulous. she always is.)

    all the best!

@deb Meryl Streep is an excellent singer. Have you seen her in A Prairie Home Companion? Her range is great. Christine Baranksi & the rest of the crew were mediocre at best, but Pierce Bronsan was the worst. It was cringe-worthy. I love him, too. This is difficult for me. I’M PAINED. :)

well, truth be told, i’m surprised about meryl’s range. but i do also remember her singing in “postcards from the edge” and she’s spoken numerous times about how if she weren’t an actress, she’d want to be a singer.

so i’m glad to hear she’s good in the movie.

christine baranski is medicocre? say it isn’t so! she’s the broadway diva amongst the group. she should be fabulous!

    still, i’ll go see it.
    for fun.
and just to look at pierce and dream. (a girl can dream, eh?)
    all the best!

I saw the clip on the Daily Show and even though his singing was partly covered by Meryl, I could tell already how bad it would be. It is a shame because I love him and think he’s great. :)

    I LOVED this movie!!

Christine Baranski was DEFINITELY not mediocre. I believe she is a former Broadway “hoofer” so no surprise there. Meryl Streep is also a very good singer, also no surprise because I think she is basically a magical human being.

And poor Pierce. To his credit, he MOSTLY carries a tune, and sings with so much heart that it’s actually cute. He totally convinced me, and if I needed any further help, Streep’s reaction would have done it… SHE believed him, for sure!

Glad, too that you mentioned Pierce’s wife. Hurray for her! There’s been some really cutting stuff about her weight on the web but I am so proud of both of them, and love the pic of the two of them on the red carpet together at Mama Mia premiere. THAT’S what love is for!!

Did you really say “age appropriate” wife? I like it but curious how you define that…
