Gary Busey On Business

Have you seen Gary Busey talking about team-building and business? It’s like a Jackson Pollock painting: messy, kind of cliché, but totally brilliant. (According to the experts.)

Dear baby jesus, some marketing dude thinks this is a wonderful ad campaign. Here’s more — if you can stand it.

It’s great stuff, dudes. It can’t be defeated.

“…helps me understand the meaning of one word with a sentence that reflects the word’s meaning and definition.” ever heard of a dictionary? oh, but he means a definition using an acronym… how clever of him…

holy cow! i never realized i could have my own -isms by just adding -ism to my last name! thank you gary busey. (can he really claim the T.E.A.M. acronym?)

how about this one: Together Everyone Annoys Me… you think that will help me in the business world?

360 ways to see an elephant? i’d venture to say there’s an unlimited number of ways to see an elephant… what about all the degrees in between and oh, i don’t know, up and down?

ok, that bears one? why would a bear call me for a hair dye? i don’t dye hair…

    totally bizarre.

    ha!

i can’t tell you how many times i’ve seen something and thought, “wow. someone thought of that — and thought it was a great idea.”

and you know what happened next?
that person pitched it to their boss, who thought it was a great idea.

so next, they had to pitch it to the team — and some people thought it was a great idea (enough people to keep the idea going).

and then people actually got paid to produce the thing, whether they thought it was a great idea or not.

so by the time we see something, there are a lot of people who thought it was a great idea, or at the very least worked to produce the thing….

i guess it takes all kinds.
    ;-)

    all the best!

@ladyangora First of all, I love that you’re here. Do you want a link to your site on my blogroll? Let me know. I will tell you this much — Gary Busy is O-mazing, but there was a time in the not-too-distant-past when SSG and your hubby would sit around and say ridiculous things that sounded pretty similar to the Busey-isms. In fact, I’m pretty sure Gary Busey stole the bear hair-dye idea from SSG.

@deb It’s like a snowball of crazy bullshit, speeding down a hill, getting bigger with each iteration!

I think I am being 100% honest in saying that adding Gary Busey to ANY situation makes it both awesome and totally insane.

Wow, I must have been living under a rock for the past few weeks, because I hadn’t even seen these before someone mentioned them to me in a forum, and even then I assumed they were joking, or that the videos were at most a one-off goof rather than a full-blown campaign.

To add insult to injury, I actually use gotvmail for my home business…

I like the comparison to Jackson Pollack because it also suggests the non sequitur aspect of these ads. If there is a “modern” marketing trick, it is to avoid talking about the product itself as much as possible, even if the product is something as benign and utterly useful as gotvmail. People are less aware that they’re being marketed to. It’s a distraction — like watching a monkey dance while a pickpocket robs you. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

@Laurie: yeah, it took me a long time to start reading here, but now that i’m here, you’ll never get rid of me… mwahahaa…

ok, i promise not to stalk you too much :) and i’d love my site to be added to your blog roll.

(i recently ‘professionalized’ my site, but the toy area is still there too.) thx!

    LOVE IT.

Gary Busey is fast becoming one of my favorite people in the world. My only wish is I could set him up with my Aunt. My Aunt loves him and I am starting to see why. She has his voice on her GPS that she got from Navtones.com, she owns the series of “I’m with Gary Busey” and often looks for him on youtube. She did show me a funny one the other day. When on youtube put in “A day in the life of Gary Busey”, funny stuff.

Anyway, what I’m saying is, thanks for putting the clips up and I’m a fan!

@Lance We need him on HR Bloggers. Do you think we can get him cheap?

@e-tan It’s a distraction — like watching a monkey dance while a pickpocket robs you. Oh my god, I’m so glad you are hear and commenting on my blog. Welcome. UR brilliant.

@Darah I miss u so much and I’m stalking you! Bring your boys and come see me in Kzoo for summer vacation.

@Slipstream No. Way. I’m looking into Navtones right now. So awesome.

Did anyone else automatically lean back when Gary started leaning forward in the first clip? When he flipped the chair over I almost wet myself.

Oh, Holy Cow! I’m actually thinking about taking on the Busey style for presentations and the like. I’ve got some training classes to put on next week. I think I’m going to have my team of writers come up with some Stella-isms (or would that be Commute-isms) for me.

    Either way, it’s an argh-ism!

I gotta say this whole trend of hire some crazy old D-list actor for an obscure marketing campaign seems to be catching on…look at Pricleine with Shatner….

Either way it is funny and catches your attention even it the reason is unknown.

I particularly like this video… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNjhXSd-LP8 ….I can only imagine what he wants to be buried in.
