New HR Carnival @ The HR Capitalist

Dudes, the latest HR carnival is up and hosted by Kris Dunn. It’s chocked full of HR and Recruiting superstars — and Bucky Covington.

Poor Bucky Covington. How pathetic are you when HR bloggers mock you?

I feel sorry for Bucky, but the world is a cruel & complicated place. We can’t all be A-players. Some of us are successful HR pros, and some of us are eighth-place finalists on American Idol who land minor record deals, write country music songs, and tour the local ‘county fair’ circuit.

Oh Christ, Bucky Covington has a better career than I do.

Go check out the carnival and satisfy your Human Resources Idol cravings!

It looks like you only skim-read the article. The author was not mocking Bucky Covington at all. He was complimenting Bucky for bringing his “A game” to the carnival. (See last paragraph.) Additionally, FYI, his record label,Lyric Street, is a major label and subsidiary of Disney. Bucky’s album debuted at # 1 last year in the country genre and # 4 in all genres. He has had 2 top 10 hits already on the country charts and his latest single, “I’ll Walk” is climbing the charts. It is obvious that you are not familiar with country music or you would know that Bucky is doing quite well. As far as the “Fair Circuit” goes, all rising country music stars do that because they believe in bringing the music to the people. An author who is a “pro” will do more than cursory research and check the facts before publication if he or she wants to excel.

Bucky Covington has a great career!! Are you kidding?? Find someone else to post as your pathetic HR woe-is-me mockster.

He had the top selling debut Country album, and he’s had two singles hit the Top 10. He also has a small part in the upcoming Miley Cyrus movie. And, he’s only just beginning. Yes, I’m a fan, and I’m also in HR.

Instead of feeling like the lost (or loser?) profession why not take a page from Bucky’s book? Work hard, develop your talents, mix with the other folks (yeah, get to know the guys in marketing, drop the exclusivity) and keep a sense of humor.

@Bev I’m not sure I agree with you about the original reference to Bucky. Nevertheless, he *does* have a better career than I do. My sister loves him. Some fans — a few — adore him. Bucky is a fine young man and loves America, apple pie, and ponies, I’m sure.

@Annie I’m interested in your second paragraph because you have an excellent point — drop the exclusivity and keep a sense of humor. Mix with other departments. Expand your reach and integrate yourself into the business. That’s *exactly* what this blog is all about, and it’s exactly what I encourage HR to do throughout this site. Way to go — defending Bucky and bring it back to HR! Excellent job. ;) (Although I still don’t care for Bucky.)

Okay, you don’t have to like Bucky, but he’s what brought me to your Blog. So, don’t discount his popularity.
Looking around you’ve got some interesting (and a little off the wall) stuff here. That’s a good thing! HR is often too old-school.

If my name was Bucky, I would change it to Lucky.
