hey angry HR blogger. maybe YOU should use a sweet 80’s style font like jennifer robinson, business blogger.
Hi Laurie… “Angy blogger” term coiner here.
I hope I can give you and HR Wench a little bit of insight into why I chose that term. I enjoy both of your blogs (I subscribe, actually). The reason why I subscribe is because I wanted to understand how human resource professionals think and behaive. The attitudes reflected from your tones on your blogs often mirror those I meet in the HR field. That tone is often negative (but your blogs are highly entertaining so it makes a great blog). A lot of people in HR think the rest of the world is dumb. The rest of the world often thinks the same thing is true of HR. It’s quite frustrating. It’s a fascinating how different groups perceive each other.
Whether that is your intent or not, that is how I perceive your writings. I enjoy reading your blogs and that’s how I feel. It’s also interesting how easy it is to offend people with, what seemed to me at the time, an insignificant classification. (I’m sure that happens a lot in HR, too). It illustrates how important perceptions are versus self-awareness. You have used the term “angry” to indentify yourself–> “Laurie Ruettimann is a self-identified angry, punk rock, HR professional who writes about Corporate America and opting-out of the rat race. ”
My apologies if you were truly offended but keep on blogging
Col – I am all about an 80s font.
Jen – I’m not offended. I love it & I love that you linked to me. In fact, I just changed my bio blurb to say “angry” instead of “atheist” TODAY because I’m embracing it. Most long-term readers know that I’m more caustic & sarcastic than angry. I’m also in love with HR in a weird, sick, dysfunctional way. It’s a fun job and I have a great body of work that represents the best and worst of Corporate America. I’m a common sense coach more than a Human Resources professional. Thanks for stopping by & let’s totally be angry, punk rock friends. Grrrrrrr….
