Change, Government and Human Resources

by Laurie on November 7, 2008

This isn’t your grandmother’s government. I present to you the Change website:

Throughout the Presidential Transition Project, this website will be your source for the latest news, events, and announcements so that you can follow the setting up of the Obama Administration. And just as this historic campaign was, from the beginning, about you — the transition process will offer you opportunities to participate in redefining our government.

Come back often as we define new programs and possibilities to engage and be part of this administration.

I think there’s a lesson for Human Resources pros embedded in this new site. Look closely and you’ll see that the content, design and layout are all about attracting, retaining, and engaging the audience. Whether you’re hiring for the next presidential administration or hiring customer service representatives, check it out:

Barack Obama knows something that your HR department doesn’t know: a visitor to your website is a passive job-seeker. It’s important to create a website that is simple, relevant, and enables your organization to have a two-way conversation with the reader.

The Change website is great and better than 95% of Fortune 500 career sites. For once, you have to admit that the government is ahead of the curve on this one.

That website makes me want to work for this administration. In fact, I applied.

I should of mention the future administration. I would be dumb if I applied for the current administration. This is truly a transparent organization, although Rahm Emanuel scares me.

Holy crap. This is awesome! Why did I expect any less?

Does an “Expression of Interest” application get around OFCCP compliance?

Laurie November 19, 2008 at 12:13 am

Amy, I think the change.gov site has a candidate management system. If they express an interest in you, they’ll ask you to submit a resume that goes into an applicant tracking system that is OFCCP compliant. I could be wrong, though. This is a good question for HR Wench/Jenn Barnes.
