I’d like to think that I’m a decent enough person to mourn the passing of a great actor with reverence and dignity; however, when the news of Charlton Heston’s passing broke on television, I looked at my husband and said, “Maybe we can pry the gun out of his hands, now.”
I’m an atheist, so no, I’m not worried about burning in hell for mocking the cold, dead, former leader of the NRA.

OK. maybe i’m mean too, but that just cracked me up.
all the best!

I’m soooo glad I’m not the only person. My first thought was “good.”
Sorry Charlton but I’m an anti-gun atheist. Our politics just don’t mix.
@deb — you’re here, which demonstrates that you are CYNICAL — not mean.
@Rachel — great minds, Rachel, think alike. xxxooo
Yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw the headline. Somehow, as a person who lost a childhood friend to a handgun accident, I find it really hard to mourn somebody who thought that even dead people ought to be packing heat. I hope he is visited often by grave robbers and necrophiliacs alike. (I’m cynical AND mean.)
Yeah. Thanks for speaking the truth on this guy.
Same thought! “Finally!”
@Sinfanti — I didn’t remember this about you.
@Lunch Admin —
@Mona — Great minds. PS – I saw the butterflies, today!
*Everyone* I talked to about Heston dying said the same thing about finally getting the gun out of his hands! Granted, everyone I talked with is not exactly in line with his way of thinking (which is why these are my friends, of course).
Another anti-gun atheist here – should we form a sorority?
Dammit, it’s like we all lack creativity. Or is it just me?
PS – We need a logo for our sorority, yo.
Get over it. You have your ideas and he had his. Heston’s ideas are Constitutional and yours’ are yours’ which the Constitution grants to us as well. Great country isn’t it? Do you know, or just hope you are right about God?
@ Laurie – Which don’t you remember, the cynical, the mean, the anti-gun or all-of-the-above?
@ Larry – That part of the Bill of Rights was written at a very different time in history and meant to protect the people’s right to overthrow the government by force in the event that democratic practices should fail. Pity it’s been used as a blanket defense by redneck yahoos to counter measures of legislation that would actually make people safer. And remember that not every amendment to our grand parchment is necessarily a good idea destined to be permanent. Look at Prohibition. As for God, hope is like belief, it flourishes in the absence of rational thought. Take a look at the vast number of world religions and the inconsistencies alone beg the logical conclusion that no one system (or combination) could be correct.
@ Laurie (cont.) – Or the atheist? We really need to reconnect. You should come over for lunch sometime. I’m only 17 hours away by plane.
