I wanted to tell you about Recruitfest. It’s an awesome conference for recruiting professionals. There will be a mix of social recruiting and old school skills, with a focus on building a vibrant recruiting community. Hope to see you there, yo!
I forgot to mention that I met Gary Vaynerchuk, last week, at mediabistro. He inspired me to focus more on video blogging, but god dammit, I’m not a natural. I need to work on it.

Update: here’s a video from Recruitfest’s Facebook page — and you can check out the crowd and see all the smiling faces.

If you aren’t a natural, practice makes perfect.
I will be the first to admit I haven’t seen all your video pieces (mostly because I have to turn off Pandora radio to hear you and its tough to take time off my Rawkin’ out), but I have enjoyed those I have seen.
I really like how you inject your humor into everything you do (“recruitfest mofos”= nice).
What can I say Laurie, you rock the small screen. Thanks so much for the endorsement and I’m looking forward to drin….err, talking with you at Recruitfest.
My computer at work doesn’t allow video— so I can only assume you’re doing a smash-up job, mate!
Laurie, I loved seeing you at Google and can’t wait to see you at Recruitfest.
You do a very good job with your vlogs, Laurie, but I’m just not a big fan of vlogs in general. They’re tough to view for a lot of people at work (either because video is blocked, the sound, or because watching a video makes others think you’re not being productive), they put demands on less powerful machines and slower web connections, they don’t always work on mobile devices, and search engines won’t find the content like they will text. Plus, I can read something faster than I can listen to it.
They are nice once in a while for really visual things, though. I think they have their place, but it’s limited.
@George Thank you. Keep rawkin to Pandora.
@Geoff My pleasure.
@MattyMat Are you working in some kind of sweatshop over there? No video? Is this 2001? Get on your IT guys!
@Jenny I’ll see you at ERE, first. Are you still doing the tweet up? I’ll be there.
@Tim Thanks. This is exactly the kind of comment that makes me think. Thank you. You’re so right — I read fast, too, and video frustrates me. I know ‘the kids’ like video & whatnot, but kids like videos of dudes who wipeout on Japanese game shows. Videos about HR and career advice? Not so much.
If I can do it, you can do it better!
@Alexandra Thanks for the encouragement!
