This weekend is a big deal here in America.
We celebrate our independence from those awful Brits.
We also host hot dog eating contests, get food poisoning, and blow off our fingers with firecrackers.

Potentially, but hopefully not, numbers two and three on that list at a friend’s cabin in outstate MN. Probably catching a movie at some point too.

Hoping my little daughter can stay up for 9pm fireworks because bedtime is usually 8:30pm. Also, some food, folks, and fun!

Family, family and more family. Which easily can include all three. I get to see the nephews – darn cute lil buggers. I get to have sun dried tomato turkey and chicken pesto “burgers” – my sister-in-law believes we need fancy food. Has she met us? We are poor white trash from California. Throw some dogs and plain ole burgers on the grill and call it good. Somehow I think that Rick will smuggle in some BEEF to toss on the grill.
Other than that, weather is going to be hot to HOT. A swimming pool or movie theater is in order.

We’re doing some party-hopping on the 4th unless the husband’s Man Cold is still full-blown.
@AJ OMG, I hate the man cold. One of my buddies has one, right now, and I’m just so glad that I didn’t catch it. Not that I could. Anything I get wouldn’t be as bad as his cold. That’s how men roll.
Don’t forget the drinking – lots of good drinking to be done (or so I assume, if it’s anything like Canada day).

Wakeboarding and trying to avoid all fireworks. My dog is terrified of them. One firecracker and she won’t come out of the basement for a week.

Doing what I do every weekend— seeing friends, having bbq’s, going to parties— but there’s fireworks involved this time!! I LOVE blowing shit up!!!

My Delta flight was delayed too so I’m still on my way to San Diego for SHRM. I sure hope it’s worth the trip…

I just found out our medical carrier is slapping my company with a 49% rate increase for our renewal. God bless America! I knew those bastards would start sticking it to us so they can try to bankrupt us all before fed regs kick in. So I’m going to start my holiday weekend with alcohol.
Tomorrow morning is a World Cup breakfast party with highly fattening foods like BACON (and hopefully a mimosa).
And then I’m going to continue to drink since my idiot neighbors started the fireworks already last night, and they’re the kind idiots who shoot them off in broad daylight, too.
So in order to avoid the idiots in the daytime, I’m going to do something very American and blow money at the Macy’s 4th of July sale on crap I don’t really need.
I know, I’m such a patriot.
The 4th itself will be cheap beer, hot dogs, and soccer (Seattle v. L.A.) I love soccer because it’s fast, no timeouts/commercials, and the men take their shirts off at the end of the match. What more do you need in a sport?
