Dudes, here’s everything you needed to know about being a Human Resources blogger.
Or whatever.

So, my big takeaways are:
- Be happy, do what you love, ignore the bullshit
- Pandering gets you nowhere
- People don’t understand blogging and bloggers
- I should buy Starbucks and Target stock
- The future just *is* man, it just is, ya know?
Safe travels home Laurie. Enjoyed the Vlog.
I find it endlessly entertaining when you say you don’t give a shit about something. Don’t know why but I do.
My question is will you ever go back to corporate HR?
That’s the way you should end every blog/vlog…I hope you enjoyed it…if you didn’t…I don’t give a shit!
AWESOME!!!!
not worrying about what’s next. channeling the power of now — that’s good, oprah-endorsed shit laurs, eckhart tolle style. brava!
good stuff, laurie. very honest… appreciated that. my takeaway: marry up since there’s no money in blogging. you should have just said that. lol.
@Mark
@HR Minion You totes know that I do give a shit. Sorta.
@RachL I’m not sure Corporate HR would take me back.
@Breanne Aw, snap, that’s my new tag line. “I don’t give a shit.”
@Cols I’d like to make some oprah-endorsed cash, but prosperity follows the personal peace. Gotta shake this anxiety & then I’ll be flowin in cash.
@J.Lee Marry up? Can someone please send a memo to Ken?! Here’s my secret: I banked some money from my severance package, scaled down my spending (sorta), and I’m making my own future. It’s really that simple.
After watching the vlog, there was something missing. Ah yes, you should wear this shirt when someone doesn’t give a shit:

@Tracy this is awesome. I might buy one.
You ever think about going to another side of HR–working for a career services in a college/university? Depending on the role, lots of places to do counseling, drop wisdom on those who (sometimes) desperately need it, help smart people identify, articulate and/or achieve their goals, and generally use that empathy you mention as one of your strengths.
Not that you’re asking for career counseling, mind you. I’m just sayin’ is all.
Blog dare: Next vlog should include you saying “What has two thumbs and doesn’t give a shit? This girl!”
BTW, I am totally going to my hairdresser and asking for “the Ruettimann” next week!
@Geoff Thanks for the non-advice advice.
I might take these awesome HR skills down to the local Boys/Girls club at some point.
@Breanne The Ruettimann? Oh it’s a disaster. Here’s the formula: it’s two bad lowlight sessions at a crappy and overpriced salon and then one very long session at a pricey salon with a *bar* to lift the color and repair it. Then there’s a cut — it’s short even though you want to grow it out because you kind of have a ‘chemical’ haircut, anyway. It’s followed by another hair repair session, later this week, to do a deep conditioning treatment and maybe to remove more of the red. If you’re ready to be attacked by a colorist who likes Bonnie Raitt and doesn’t understand “no red lowlights” and gives you some red lowlights, I have a recommendation for you.
Whew!
I think you’re on to something with your “message”. Great stuff! I think you’re dead on about the “future” of HR. I’ve been in this business a long time – and it’s rare to see this kind of honesty. Please keep it up.
George, thanks. I had no idea that it was you who called us Cheeshead’s Angels. Don’t inflate his ego.
i love it.
Holy crap, that was totally brilliant & inspiring. How do you do it?!!
@amanda You are a pro. I have things to learn from you.
@Jenn What? Aw shucks.
you said it sista!
Enjoyed hearing your answers to these questions and learning more about what my dream job entails – being on the internet, going to the gym, reading, blogging and playing with animals. If you ever need a partner, just let me know!
@Jennifer I’m so glad to hear our dreams align. I’m always looking for a partner but the pay is loooooooooooooow. PS – Can’t wait to hear more about your travels, yo!
