Monday Morning HR Humor: Breaking Bad News

by Laurie on December 8, 2008

 Monday Morning HR Humor: Breaking Bad NewsI walked past this book at Barnes & Noble and did a double-take.

Finally, here’s a snazzy and adorable way to tell your employees that salary increases are frozen in 2009. Break the bad news with baby animals.

[I would like to take this opportunity to say that my own grandmother is doing well after her recent episode of congestive heart failure. The world is on notice, though... when Gramma passes, I will expect nothing but baby animal sympathy cards.]

First time on this website. The sad eye pupy is cute, but right now I feel like a kitten who fell into a toilet bowl. Here goes. I’m a college freshman and am undecided as to my major. The practical side of me says I should major in business, the other side of me loves English. The question I have is, can I have the best of both worlds? Can I major in English and still have a good opportunity to have a career in business?

Ok, after I saw this I ran out to Borders during my lunch break to buy it. The cashier did NOT understand the humor of the book… she looked at it, frowned, and said, “We recently had that experience too… my condolences.” At that point I really didn’t know what to say. Do I say thank you??? I felt kind of bad, but COME ON!

Oh my…I laughed so hard that I disrupted my cube neighbors. This would be perfect to give to my co-worker, who has the painful task of calling several job candidates today, letting them know that they didn’t get the job.

@Trixie- Have you considered a dual major in business AND English or a major in English and minor in business (or vice versa)? Have you spoken to your advisor about your concerns?

@Trixie
If you truly are looking for a job in business get a business degree if you are interested in English get a teaching degree or look into other career routes for English majors.

In my opinion college degrees are not all inclusive. People come in and say I have a college degree I can do anything. Not true. There are majors for a reason.

Just my advice.

@Trixie Good question. Let’s see what kind of comments we get before I weigh in…

@Frank It’s so awesome it hurts.

@HR Underling My husband could have used it to break the news that we were getting married.

@Angela This book is perfect for your coworkers!

@Julie That is so funny.

@Nick Hmmmm… interesting opinion.

Saw this one in Borders yesterday. So perfectly wrong I felt guilty about laughing – but at the same time, so perfectly wrong it was HILARIOUS.

And glad your grandma’s doing better, Laurie.
