My husband’s workplace is having a holiday luncheon with a luau theme (ugh–cocktail weenies are sure to factor in) and an ugly sweater contest. Our feeling is that since the great majority of employees in his department have not been in the U.S. that long, there are unlikely to be many entries. Heck, I’m 32 and from a small Midwestern town, so I consider myself one of the likeliest people around to have an ugly Christmas sweater and I don’t have one.

We used to have categorized “bake-offs” in my old office for holidays or randomly. The categories were usually loosely seasonal. I liked this better. Even with only truly enthusiastic people entering (there was no pressure to bake if you didn’t want to), there was always plenty of yummy food, and it was fun to rank the entries. It was also about as much of a “theme” as I am generally willing to tolerate. Of course I might be biased because my cherry pie won the pie contest.

How do you throw a party making fun of the ugly sweaters when there is someone who LOVES them? It is enough for me to banish Casual Fridays in December.

Thrift stores are a great place to find ugly holiday sweaters. Despite my mother’s pleading I’m still ugly sweater free.

Im going to start a craze in our office. keep it nice and old school diamond acrylic tank tops is a great start point
