It’s Sunday, and the NFL is back in action. When I think of sports and Human Resources, only one man comes to mind: Kris Dunn.
Let me tell you a little something about Kris. When I first started blogging, Kris sent me a positive email with very encouraging words. When I was unsure about where to take my career, Kris encouraged me to write. When I was ambivalent & wondering about the future of this blog, Kris told me to buy the domain PUNKROCKHR — or he would buy it and I would ultimately have to buy it from him via a domain broker (& at a much higher price).
You know what? You can’t get that kind of support from most people, and Kris gave it to me. We don’t agree on much, and he doesn’t link back to my blog because he’s afraid his readership would object to my brand of sauciness, but Kris has given me mad props & support at multiple points during my blogging career.
The internet is so great, dudes. Kris and I don’t have much in common when it comes to politics, but we share a passion for improving the field of Human Resources. We also enjoy retro 80s references, making fun of Bucky Covington, and Green Day. If that’s not a basis for a great relationship in the field of HR, I don’t know what is.
Kris, here’s a sunday shout-out to you: stay offline and enjoy Week #1 of the NFL!

Nice “shout out” Laurie.
What Lisa said!
Kris has been a great encourager to many of us – thanks for recognizing him here, Laurie. The blogosphere is a great place!
Who is Bucky Covington?
@Lisa I think I might do this shout out as a weekly Sunday feature. It’s fun to dish out props.
@Ann UR kidding me about Bucky, right? He’s only just the most awesome & amazingly talented singer ever booted off American Idol in the very early rounds. HOW DO U NOT KNOW THIS???

Thanks for the shout out. You are too kind. From my perspective, it’s always been about talent, and it was clear from when you started that you could write with a voice most people can’t get to.
Of course, you know I would love for you to mainsteam the thing a little bit. Not because I can’t live with the political and other differences, because I can. No, selfishly I want you to mainsteam it so we could work together sometime, and maybe bring the whole traditional HR thing to it’s knees (cue the imperial star wars music). It’s hard out there for a named blogger trying to be edgy and keep the daytime gig at the same time…
As it stands now, our only opportunity to work together might be in a Hannity and Combs type scenario… Hmmm, wait a second…. Except that I’m a lot more moderate than Sean Hannity and you won’t stand for the comparison to Combs based on looks alone (I wouldn’t either).
Anyway, you’re right about one key thing – we have a lot in common. Anyone who understands the logical intersection of HR commentary exists where retro 80s references, making fun of Bucky Covington, and Green Day come together is money in my book.
PS – I’ll plug you into my blogroll this week, and I need to plug a couple of others in as well. I’m bad about updating, because I really don’t get traffic from blogrolls, even from high traffic sites…
So I’m always there when you need to toss some ideas around. Pay it forward as I know you will…

HR Capitalist was one of the first HR blogs I stumbled upon. Unfortunately I can’t stomach all the sports talk enough to read the blog entries anymore.
Shout Out to Laurie:

Kris is why I’m doing the blogging thing so I’m a big fan too.
@Kris Thanks for the response. I’ll definitely pay it forward.
@RachL I try to embrace the essence of HR that is all around me. It’s in sports, business, celebrity gossip, etc.
@Teresa Oh yeah, I’ll be tuning in.
@HR_Minion I’m glad ur blogging, yo!
I’m sitting here and I’m like…uh…Bucky Covington? American Idol? Corporate Lunch rooms? Woah…I’m so out of the mainstream…
