Today @ Les Googles

by Laurie on June 15, 2009

The good news about today’s presentation at The Social Recruiting Summit.

  • I think it went well.
  • We talked about our online voices, communities, and how to speak like a real person and not a HR or Recruiting flack.
  • I learned about Flock.
  • The audience really participated. Seriously. It was awesome.

Not so good.

  • I was audiotaped and livestreamed — and I hear that the quality isn’t very good.
  • I dropped the f-bomb. Twice. At least. (Well, that’s not bad for me but I think some people blushed.)
  • I mentioned that I stop following people who think Obama doesn’t have a birth certificate and I won’t talk to people who try to convert me to Christianity.

I had a great time. I was calm & assertive. I talked about Scrubby. Pretty good day, in my opinion!

Revised: Here’s a copy of my presentation, not that it means anything without cussing and spitting.

You were great today. And as a fellow cynic (see my Kennedy tweets, etc.) and overall hater of many of the industry pundits pimping their wares and speaking off-topic with heinous slides, you resonated. My summers of college job was working at the Wrigley Gum Factory so I look forward to continuing the dialogue with you and sharing the knowledge.

I listened, hard to hear but what I heard was great.

Cesar would be proud. More adults should take his advice.

Hey! I was there. I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. “F bombs” and all. I learned a lot and agree with your philosophy.

Geez! Can’t even spell my last name on my e-mail address. I guess I’m toast tonight.

Didn’t see it and haven’t heard it yet, but I’m sure you did AWESOME. I just giggled when I read your post and my husband asked why. : ) You rock, Ms. Laurie, and I cannot wait to see you in NOLA!

As a point of etiquette from across the pond, any presentation containing swearing is laudable. Adds a certain frisson to proceedings and ensures people are kept awake…..

Yay! I’m happy for you.

I would have been sorely disappointed if there had been no f-bombs. You can’t talk about authenticity without being authentic.

“I mentioned that I stop following people who think Obama doesn’t have a birth certificate and I won’t talk to people who try to convert me to Christianity.”

I don’t get how this falls into the “Not Good” category?

I’m not sure how I got here- but I think I want to be you when I grow up.

@Amanda You are the queen of giving presentations, so I totally appreciate your feedback.

@Shellei Wow, you must be on the wrong site! Thank you. ;)

@Emily Well, ya know, I don’t want to alienate people RIGHT AWAY. Or do I?

@Minion It’s so funny because Susan Burns and I were talking about how much we really adore you & love your blog!

@Kerry I hate it when young boys smoke just to look tough & cool. That’s how some people come across when they cuss. I don’t want to be one of those people. Unfortunately, you’re right. I swear in a very authentic (& downright trashy) way. I *can* keep it in check, but it’s hard.

@TheHRD I love the tip. Makes me feel better!
