My political bottom line: I've never voted "for" anyone. I've voted "against" a few people, but I usually vote for "the lesser of the two evils". I believe all politicians are lying to me and will continue to lie to me forever more. I just want to elect the one who lies least.

When it comes to talent management: I've had the same experience as Laurie mentioned in another post - execs come to the meeting with candidates already decided and it's a COMPLETE waste of time. Nothing I say or do changes their minds. Some HR pros out there may claim that it's MY fault that happened - I obviously wasn't convincing enough creating the business case of "proper" talent management. To them I say "be my guest and have a go at these chumps - I'm done here anyways".

I think that the 2008 election should be about talent management but it is quite clear that it is currently not at all like it. If it were the case, somebody's ass would be kicked to the curb.

If the person in charge of talent management spent ten times the effort on vetting a person's personality versus spending time vetting:

- Viewpoints regarding workplace issues
- Behavioral profiling
- Situational exploration
- Exploring a person's experience

I don't think I'd be happy with the results. If the 2008 election is a talent management demonstration, it rivals the worst seen in corporate America and beyond.

All I am saying is that if we want to make this more like a talent management process, we should focus on all of the issues we would normally take into account (including personality, but not to the emphasis given to it currently).

And if your personal experience with talent selection processes has been crappy but you help perpetuate the problem, of course I am going to object. Do you think throwing "objectivity out" actually works? I'm not saying personality and subjectivity doesn't have anything to do with it but the amount of time people spend on it and the amount of play it gets is stupid. People that want to continue to play this game every four years can go for it but I am taking myself out of that.
