Weekend ‘Work Rules’ During the Summer

by Laurie on June 19, 2010

I have a traditional view of work and weekends during the summertime.

It goes something like this.

  1. I don’t do any work on Friday – Sunday.
  2. I don’t check my work-related email unless I’m looking for gossip.
  3. I won’t check my voicemail at all.
  4. If I am on the computer, it’s because I am uploading pictures and telling you how awesome my weekend is.
  5. If you ask me for something over the weekend, I purposely won’t respond to you until Tuesday.

Stop reading this blog. Go have some fun, today.

I worked yesterday. And today. Why today? Because I could get comp time. And I’m so overloaded with work and deadlines that I’m screwed if I don’t. (When work finally lightens up–probably in August–I’ll use it to see an allergist and an eye doctor, which I’ve needed to do for a long time.) I actually had to fight to get comp time. It was nice though; the phone didn’t ring, I didn’t need to talk to anyone…it was glorious.

Fortunately, I set my seniors up for failure far in advance, (like you suggested earlier this week) so they know I’m having a rough time.

Also, I’ve noticed you’re using your twitter a lot today from the sidebar on this page. Are you one of those people who live by the mantra, “Do as I say, not as I do”?
